Questions and answers about your skin type and the right care
With a surface area of approximately two square meters, our skin is the largest organ in our body and performs numerous vital functions. It stores energy, protects us from external influences, regulates our body temperature, and, through millions of receptors, enables us to perceive touch and temperature differences. This makes it all the more important to engage with this versatile organ and provide it with optimal care.
Why is it important to know your skin type?
Every skin type is different. While some people require minimal care to maintain healthy skin, others are prone to dryness, redness, or blemishes. Various factors can disrupt the skin's natural balance and impair its protective function. To best support your skin, it's crucial to know your skin type and tailor your skincare accordingly.
How do I find my skin type and the right care?
Each skin type has specific characteristics that help you determine which skincare product is best for you. Choose the description that best describes you:
• My skin is smooth and looks healthy.
• My skin is often red and prone to irritation.
• My skin feels tight, rough and itchy.
• My skin reacts sensitively to external influences (e.g. care products).
• My skin sometimes flakes.
• My skin is shiny and has large, sometimes clogged pores.
• My skin is uneven and prone to pimples.
• My cheeks are dry, but my forehead, nose and chin are shiny.
Based on these characteristics, five basic skin types can be distinguished:
Skin type 1: Normal skin
Is your skin easy-going, supple, and radiant? Then you're lucky enough to have a normal skin type. Thanks to a stable acid mantle, your skin can fend off external influences well. Proper care is essential to keep it that way.
Care tips for normal skin:
• Cleanse your face with mild products and lukewarm water to gently remove oil and makeup. Then apply moisturizer.
• For an extra moisture boost, use face masks.
• You should also use mild products for your body care. The HYDRO range, with magnolia blossom water, almond milk, and hydro-complex, moisturizes and preserves the skin's natural protective barrier. It's available as a shower gel , body lotion , andhand cream .
Skin type 2: Dry skin
Is your skin feeling tight, flaky, and itchy? Perhaps there are even red patches? This indicates dry skin. The cause is usually a disruption in oil and moisture regulation, which causes the skin to lose moisture. With the right care, you can restore balance.
Care tips for dry skin:
• Use lukewarm water instead of hot to avoid drying out your skin further.
• Use moisturizing products
• For body care we recommend the NUTRI care shower and the NUTRI body lotion with peony blossoms and argan oil.
•NUTRI hand cream is suitable for dry hands.
Skin type 3: Demanding skin
If your skin reacts quickly to external influences such as the wrong skincare products or extreme temperatures, causing redness, itching, or an unpleasant feeling, you have sensitive skin. A damaged skin barrier is often the cause.
Care tips for demanding skin:
• Use only dermatologically tested products
• Mild cleansing and care products help to maintain the skin’s natural protective function.
• The COMFORT range with vanilla blossoms and macadamia oil is ideal for body care. It is available as a shower gel and body lotion .
• If you have demanding skin, be especially careful on your hands. Our COMFORT hand cream with floral water extract supports your skin's barrier.
• If you have persistent irritation, an allergy may be the cause – it is best to consult a dermatologist.
Skin type 4: Oily, blemish-prone skin
Shiny, oily skin, large pores, and pimples indicate an overproduction of sebum and a dysfunction of the sebaceous glands. The excess sebum cannot drain properly, leading to blackheads and inflammatory skin blemishes.
Care tips for oily skin:
• Cleanse your face morning and evening with a mild facial cleanser
• Use a facial toner to remove makeup residue.
• Use a gentle scrub or clay mask with activated charcoal once or twice a week.
• Use a light, non-greasy moisturizer for blemished skin.
Skin type 5: Combination skin
If your cheeks are dry, but your forehead, nose, and chin (the so-called T-zone) have a shiny, oily appearance, you have combination skin. Increased sebum production in the T-zone is genetic and can lead to breakouts, while the dry areas need moisture.
Care tips for combination skin:
• Cleanse the oily T-zone as recommended for oily skin.
• The dry areas need gentle care – here you can follow the tips for dry or sensitive skin.
• Balanced care helps to bring the skin into balance.
By knowing your skin type and choosing the right care, you can optimally support your skin and give it a healthy, radiant appearance.
